The Gote is our beloved leather tote bag. In the office, out for lunch, travelling across Europe - this all-round bag has you covered in any scenario. Since it’s conception back in 2016, the Gote is a unisex design that remains one of our most popular products to date. 

Style from day to overnight

When creating our Gote weekender bag, we made sure to include enough compartments to suit the modern man. A padded slip pocket is specifically designed to hold up to a 15” laptop. Whilst two internal and one external pockets provide ample space for your overnight belongings.

Billy Tannery was born from the discovery that thousands of goat hides were being thrown away by the UK food industry. We set out to find a renewable solution, opening a small-batch tannery in the Midlands to turn leftover by-product into beautiful, bark-tanned leather.

Every product at Billy Tannery is crafted using our sustainable goat leather, an environmentally friendly solution to material that often circles the globe leaving a heavy carbon footprint. Instead, each piece can be traced back to the farm. We partner with ethical goat meat supplier, Cabrito, to ensure that no hide is wasted.

What’s more, we use natural bark extracts to ensure 90% of the water used in our tanning process is recycled. The rest of our waste is also completely biodegradable, whether composted or used within the grasslands surrounding our tannery.

One of a kind craftsmanship made in the UK

Like all Billy Tannery bags, our Gote leather weekender is proudly made in Britain from material to end product.

The bag starts its journey in our very own microtannery. Much like a microbrewery, we create high-quality small batches, ensuring each piece is of the utmost quality. Each hide is vegetable-tanned, resulting in a rich, characterful leather that ages beautifully over time.

The hides are then handed over to family-run company, Blenkinsop Leathers who give our leather a finishing touch of wax and gloss for optimum durability. Each bag is finally made in small batches of ten by our expert leather craftsman in Somerset and Leicestershire. Here we use heavy cotton linings from Manchester’s oldest textile company, as well as solid brass fittings.
