Billy Tannery was born from the discovery that thousands of goat hides were being discarded by the UK food industry every year. We set out to change that, opening our own small-batch microtannery in the Midlands to transform these by-products into beautiful vegetable-tanned leather.
Today, alongside our goat leather, we also work with responsibly sourced British deer hides that would otherwise go to waste.
Every hide can be traced back to its source, while our vegetable tanning process uses natural bark extracts and recycles around 90% of the water used during production. The remaining waste is composted or safely returned to the surrounding grassland.
For us, sustainability isn't just about how something is made. It's about creating bags that are designed to be used for decades rather than replaced every few years.

Each hide begins its journey in our own microtannery before being carefully finished by family-run specialists Blenkinsop Leathers. Finally, every bag is handcrafted in small batches by expert leather makers in Somerset and Leicestershire using heavyweight cotton linings from Manchester’s oldest textile company and solid brass hardware throughout.
