Our British goatskin rugs are vegetable-tanned over a number of weeks in our small-batch tannery in the Midlands, using goatskins left over from the food industry. This natural process means that they are relatively firm.
Our regular full-grain goat leather is at its best when tanned from white-haired goatskins. Years of trial and error has shown us that these hides give us the cleanest and most consistent results for full-grain leather.
However in each batch from Cabrito, there are normally around 10 beautifully coloured goatskins, so we keep these aside and tan them after each main batch. In order to keep the hair in perfect condition for rugs, these goatskins tan almost stationary in our wooden drums over a 3-4 week period.
